Valemei’s Triumphant Return: Family Cheers and Fiji Bati Showdown Await!

Semi Valemei is set to return to the Vodafone Fiji Bati for the upcoming Pacific Championship, a moment that carries special meaning for him as it will mark the first time his family will watch him compete on an international level.

“This time, it’s more than special because my parents and all my siblings will be watching the game,” Valemei expressed. He noted that the last time they saw him play was during a 7s tournament in their village.

At just 23 years old, Valemei, who currently plays as a winger for the Canberra Raiders in the NRL, previously represented Fiji Bati at the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.

“This isn’t my first time with the national rugby league team,” he pointed out, acknowledging the honor of being selected once again, especially given the competition from other talented Fijian wingers.

Valemei mentioned that the Bati team recently visited his hometown of Navidamu in Seaqaqa, describing the experience as unforgettable. “The people back home loved it. They adored the boys. They’ve only seen them on television, so seeing them in person was truly special,” he added.

He also confirmed his contract with the Cowboys for next year, stating, “I’m going to do my best to continue playing rugby league.”

Valemei encourages young athletes by sharing a straightforward message: “Never give up and keep chasing your dreams.”

The Fiji Bati is scheduled to face the Papua New Guinea Kumuls at HFC Bank Stadium this Saturday at 8:10 PM.
