USP’s Early Childhood Program Earns Prestigious Re-Accreditation

The University of the South Pacific’s Certificate III in Early Childhood Care and Education program has successfully obtained re-accreditation from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) for a period of five years.

This program, offered through the Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE), equips students with essential skills and knowledge to effectively care for infants and toddlers.

Professor Jito Vanualailai, Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President (Education), stated that this accreditation emphasizes the course’s relevance and credibility. He expressed appreciation for everyone involved in the accreditation process, noting, “Our students will greatly benefit from this accreditation as they undertake an internationally recognized program.”

Susan Sela, Director of PTAFE, highlighted the significant efforts made to get the program listed among ACECQA’s accredited qualifications. She mentioned, “Our team has done a lot of work in the area of early childhood education and care, and this is the outcome of that hard work.”

The program teaches students to plan their approach through the observation of children’s play and learning, alongside exploring legislative and policy frameworks, and workplace health and safety. Sela emphasized that the certificate program also focuses on issues impacting Pacific communities, encouraging graduates to think critically and engage proactively in the workforce.
