The University of the South Pacific (USP) plans to pursue legal action against the Permanent Secretary of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations over the recent strike by both USP Unions. In a verified email, USP has warned staff participating in the strike that they will forfeit their pay during this period.
The university stated that employees who are members of either union and fail to report for work or adhere to their normal office hours, unless on pre-approved leave, will be considered to be on strike. Additionally, USP indicated that, aside from verified emergencies, leave applications will not be accepted due to the significant impact of the strike on university operations.
USP has expressed that the ongoing issues are viewed by management as outside the existing collective contracts and employment conditions. The university emphasized that its primary focus remains on providing support for its students, and it will make efforts to minimize disruptions to services.
