The University of the South Pacific Students’ Association (USPSA) has announced that it will not intervene in the situation between USP Management and a recently terminated employee, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legal procedures for any potential grievances.
Association President Lepani Naqarase stated that the USPSA respects the processes established in the University’s Ordinances and Statutes. In light of concerns raised by some members, USPSA executives, including those from the Laucala Branch, met with members of the senior management team, which included the Vice-Chancellor, the Acting Deputy VC for Research and Innovation, the Dean of the Graduate School, and the Head of the relevant School. This meeting aimed to discuss the support arrangements that have been established for the students impacted by the situation.
Naqarase further mentioned that the USPSA has engaged with the students directly affected by this issue to listen to their concerns. He reiterated that the Association’s priority is to promote and safeguard the welfare of its students.
Following these discussions, Naqarase expressed satisfaction with the management’s arrangements, which ensure that services for these students will continue uninterrupted. He also confirmed that the USPSA will actively monitor the agreed-upon arrangements with management and maintain regular communication, including with Vice-Chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia.
