USP Staff Unions Rally for Change Amidst Leadership Crisis

The University of the South Pacific has yet to address the demands put forth by two staff unions calling for the immediate ousting of Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia.

The strike by members of the Association of the University of the South Pacific Staff and the USP Staff Union continues today.

Last Friday, more than 200 staff members rallied outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office, demanding his removal due to ongoing grievances regarding his leadership, including significant governance concerns and the recent dismissal of AUSPS President Dr. Tamara Osbourne-Naikatini.

In response to the strike, USP plans to pursue legal action against the decision made by the Permanent Secretary of Employment regarding the protest.

The university has warned staff participating in the strike that they will not receive payment for the duration of their protest.

Currently, Professor Pal Ahluwalia is reportedly out of the country.
