USP Staff Unions Demand Vice-Chancellor’s Exit Amid Ongoing Strike

The University of the South Pacific has yet to address the requests from two Staff Unions demanding the immediate removal of Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia.

Strike action by members of the Association of the University of the South Pacific Staff and the USP Staff Union continues today.

Last Friday, more than 200 staff members staged a protest outside the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, advocating for his removal due to unresolved issues regarding his leadership, which includes serious governance concerns and the recent dismissal of AUSPS President Dr. Tamara Osbourne-Naikatini.

In response, USP plans to take legal action against the decision made by the Permanent Secretary of Employment regarding the strike.

The university has also warned striking staff that they will not receive pay for the duration of the protest.

Additionally, it is reported that Professor Pal Ahluwalia is currently out of the country.
