USP Staff Concerns Spark Ministerial Meeting Plans

The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, plans to convene a Special Council Meeting for the University of the South Pacific alongside Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad and Minister for Labour, Agni Deo Singh. Radrodro aims to address various issues, particularly concerning the welfare and concerns of Fijian staff at USP.

He has referred the matter of staff terminations at USP to the Ministry of Employment. “My goal is to resolve the concerns that have been raised regarding the welfare of Fijian staff, particularly in light of termination issues and threats of strikes,” Radrodro stated.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to working with the Prime Minister and member countries of the USP Council to facilitate the university’s operations, prioritizing the well-being of teachers and students to foster a conducive learning and working environment. Radrodro also noted that he has been keeping the Prime Minister informed about developments at USP.
