The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, plans to convene a Special Council Meeting of the University of the South Pacific (USP) with Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad and Minister for Labour, Agni Deo Singh. This initiative aims to address various issues, particularly concerning the welfare and concerns of Fijian staff at USP.
Radrodro mentioned that he has referred the situation regarding the termination of USP staff to the Ministry of Employment. He emphasized his goal of resolving the raised issues and ensuring the welfare of Fijian staff by organizing a special meeting to tackle the highlighted problems related to job terminations and threats of strikes.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s respect for the Prime Minister and other member countries of the USP Council, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a conducive learning and working environment for both teachers and students. He also noted that he has kept the Prime Minister informed about the developments concerning USP.
