Urgent Water Pipeline Repairs Expected to Disrupt Supply in Fiji

The Water Authority of Fiji is set to isolate the raw water pipeline leading to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura to carry out urgent repairs on a damaged washout valve. This damage occurred due to flash flooding early this morning when a tree trunk, swept away by the floodwaters, struck the valve on the main raw water pipeline.

Samuela Rokovaleusa, the WAF Manager for Regional Operations, emphasized that repairing the damaged washout valve is crucial for ensuring consistent water production and maintaining operational integrity. He noted that significant amounts of water are currently being lost from the pipeline and are not reaching the Tamavua treatment facility.

The pipeline isolation will begin today and is anticipated to continue overnight. During this time, residents in nearby areas may experience disruptions to their water supply. Rokovaleusa assured the public that his operations team will work diligently to minimize any inconvenience and will offer water carting assistance as necessary. Residents are advised to prepare for this temporary disruption.
