Urgent Repairs to Fiji’s Water Supply: Residents Brace for Disruption

The Water Authority of Fiji is set to isolate its raw water pipeline that feeds into the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura for urgent repairs. This decision comes after a washout valve was damaged due to flash flooding early this morning, when a tree trunk swept by the floodwaters struck the valve on the main raw water line.

Samuela Rokovaleusa, the WAF Manager for Regional Operations, emphasized the importance of repairing the damaged washout valve to maintain the production of water and the integrity of operations. He noted that a significant amount of water is currently being lost from the pipeline and not reaching the treatment plant.

The isolation process is scheduled to begin today and is expected to last overnight. During this time, residents in nearby areas should expect water supply disruptions. Rokovaleusa reassured the public that his operations team is committed to minimizing inconvenience and will work diligently to complete the repairs as soon as possible, also providing water carting assistance.

Residents are advised to prepare for this temporary disruption in water service.
