The Water Authority of Fiji is set to isolate its raw water pipeline leading to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura to conduct urgent repairs on a damaged washout valve, which was affected by flash flooding earlier today. The damage occurred when a tree trunk, swept away by floodwaters this morning, struck the washout valve of the raw water main.
WAF Manager of Regional Operations, Samuela Rokovaleusa, emphasized that the repair of the damaged washout valve is crucial for ensuring continued water production and maintaining operational integrity. Currently, a significant amount of water is being lost as it discharges from the pipe instead of reaching the treatment plant.
The pipeline isolation will begin today and is anticipated to last through the night. Rokovaleusa informed that residents in nearby areas may face disruptions in their water supply during this time. He assured the public that his team will work diligently to minimize inconvenience and complete the repairs promptly, with arrangements for water carting assistance provided as needed. Residents are encouraged to prepare for this temporary disruption.
