A flash flood warning has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas in Fiji’s Northern Division. In response to a forecast from the Fiji Meteorological Service warning of strong winds, Commissioner Uraia Rainima convened an emergency meeting with leadership from essential services, including the Fiji Roads Authority, Fiji Police, and the National Fire Authority.
Commissioner Rainima confirmed that connecting roads throughout the island remained clear despite recent heavy rainfall. Nevertheless, he emphasized the importance of preparedness, advising stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education to alert schools that may be used as evacuation centers.
All necessary measures have been implemented to ensure a prompt response to any emergencies. The Commissioner urged residents to take precautions and relocate to safer areas with their families to avoid the risks associated with potential flooding.
