The Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, has called for the re-establishment of 55 vacant traditional leadership positions in Macuata Province. During a meeting of the Macuata Provincial Council in Sasa Village, Mr. Vasu pointed out that while 88 percent of these traditional titles are currently filled, 12 percent remain unoccupied, which he believes detracts from effective leadership and progress in the region.
Emphasizing the importance of these roles, Mr. Vasu stated that filling these vacancies is essential for the ongoing development and unity of tribes and districts. He urged local leaders to exemplify excellence in service to their communities and highlighted the need for the youth’s involvement in land use and resource management.
“We need to maximize our resources and transform them into business and income opportunities for our families,” Mr. Vasu said, advocating for a better utilization of resources to foster sustainable wealth in the province. He also mentioned organizations like Merchant Finance, Fijian Holdings, and the iTaukei Trust Fund as potential supporters for these initiatives.
Mr. Vasu’s remarks underscore a concerted effort toward proactive leadership and community engagement aimed at securing the prosperity of Macuata through effective leadership and the involvement of all community members.
This call for action presents a hopeful outlook for Macuata’s future, encouraging strong leadership, community participation, and resource management which could lead to significant growth and unity within the province.
