Urgent Call for Action: Social Welfare Payments on the Line!

The Opposition Member of Parliament, Virendra Lal, has called on the government to prioritize the needs of all social welfare recipients. Speaking in Parliament, Mr. Lal addressed the recent delays in social welfare allowance payments that occurred earlier this week. He emphasized that such delays should be avoided in the future, highlighting the necessity for the Ministry of Finance to enhance its system.

On Monday, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection explained that the delays in September’s social welfare allowance payments were due to the transition to the new financial year implemented by the government. Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, assured that from September onwards, all monthly payments would return to their regular schedule.

Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, stated that there were no issues with the finance system and reiterated that the Social Welfare Ministry had already provided an explanation for the delays. He confirmed that all allowances had been disbursed.

Currently, approximately 104,000 beneficiaries receive support from various assistance programs, including the family assistance scheme, social pension scheme, care and protection allowance, disability allowance, rural pregnant mother food allowance, and transport assistance scheme.
