Urgent Call for Action on Social Welfare Payment Delays

Opposition Member of Parliament Virendra Lal has urged the government to prioritize the needs of all social welfare recipients. His remarks came during a parliamentary session following delays in social welfare allowance payments reported earlier this week.

Lal emphasized the necessity of addressing these delays to prevent future occurrences and called on the Ministry of Finance to enhance its systems accordingly. The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection explained that the August payments were postponed due to the transition to the new financial year for the government.

Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, assured that from September onwards, all monthly payments will be restored to their regular schedule. Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad clarified that there were no issues with the finance system, stating that the Social Welfare Ministry had already provided an explanation regarding the delays and confirmed that all allowances had been disbursed.

Approximately 104,000 beneficiaries are supported through various allowance programs, including family assistance, social pension, care and protection, disability, rural pregnant mother food, and transport assistance schemes.
