“Unveiling the Power of Public Reporting”

Most drug raids conducted by authorities have been possible due to information received from the public. Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua has called on community members to report any information they have about potential drug activities in their neighborhoods.

Speaking on The Lens@177 this week, Mr. Tikoduadua recognized that fear often prevents people from sharing information with authorities.

“In our communities, there’s too much talk—this person is peddling, that house is taking drugs, that house is pushing drugs. It’s too much talk,” he said.

“For those who are really concerned about the safety of their children and their community, come forward. We will be there to protect individuals who provide information to the government. People are scared, we understand, but we aim to create an environment where people will be protected.”

He noted that this would stop the freedom that drug dealers currently enjoy within the community.

“You hear about all the raids, the information is coming from the people—the various amounts of drugs we are confiscating and the people we are arresting. This information comes from the public, and we encourage them to continue doing that.”
