The Coalition Government is focused on meeting the needs of the iTaukei community, as stated by Justice Minister Siromi Turaga. He emphasized that services recognizing the rights and requirements of the iTaukei people are currently being implemented.
During his initial ministerial visit to Koro island since taking office, Mr. Turaga noted that services aimed at the indigenous community are gradually becoming available. He mentioned, “These services will eventually expand to meet the changing world.”
Acknowledging some complaints regarding delays, he explained that various services have been established by the Government, including some that had never been offered previously. He expressed his regret for the delays, attributing them to the challenges of transitioning from the past 16 years of governmental leadership.
Mr. Turaga highlighted the importance of proper consultations, emphasizing that the Government is meant to serve its people. “We are dedicated to engaging the community in every government decision, as we respect the vanua and the lotu. We aim to set a precedent for the younger generation to follow the right procedures,” he added.
His ministerial visit included interactions with government agencies that provide services that were previously inaccessible to the residents of Koro.
