Unlocking Voices: How ‘Seema’ Exposes the Darkness of Domestic Violence

Seema, a film directed by Sabrina Khan, a British-born international human rights lawyer from Fiji, aims to address pressing social issues and inspire meaningful change.

Inspired by the biblical directive in Proverbs 31:8, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,” the film explores the challenging reality of domestic violence. This project is particularly personal for Ms. Khan, who is a survivor of domestic violence herself and uses the film as a platform to raise awareness about this critical issue.

The movie highlights the profound effects of domestic violence and draws attention to alarming statistics surrounding the crisis. “Domestic violence statistics have gotten worse for women. I believe we can’t create enough awareness because it’s getting worse globally,” Ms. Khan stated. She hopes that the film will ignite important discussions, elevate global awareness, and help break the ongoing cycle of violence.

Seema was filmed in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia, and features lead actress Reena Shah alongside Australian actor Morrison James.
