Unlocking Services: A New Era for the iTaukei Community

The Coalition Government is making efforts to meet the needs of the iTaukei community, according to Justice Minister Siromi Turaga. He announced that services aimed at recognizing the rights and needs of this community are currently being implemented.

During his first visit to Koro Island since taking office, Mr. Turaga highlighted that essential services for the indigenous community are gradually becoming available. He expressed confidence that these services will continue to evolve with the changing times.

Acknowledging some complaints regarding delays in service delivery, he noted that the government has established various services, some of which had never been offered previously. He apologized for the delays, emphasizing that it has been a challenge to move forward after 16 years of previous governance.

Mr. Turaga stressed the importance of proper consultations, stating that the government operates for the benefit of the people. He reiterated the commitment to involve the community in every governmental decision to honor the values of the vanua (land) and lotu (religion).
