The Ratu Kadavulevu School celebrated its centennial with an event featuring prominent speakers who motivated both students and alumni to unite for a brighter future and enhanced collaboration.
During the celebration, various government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, highlighted the prospect of new job opportunities aimed at benefiting graduates.
Ifereimi Vasu, the Minister for iTaukei Affairs, stressed the importance of training future leaders. He remarked, “It is crucial to consider what we can do today to prepare our future generations for the challenges that lie ahead,” during a Business Talk earlier this week.
Kamikamica pointed out that efforts are underway to empower youth to take ownership of Medium, Micro, and Small Enterprises (MSMEs). He noted, “As we work to solve the mystery of poverty, introducing entrepreneurship will be essential in addressing this issue in Fiji.”
He also mentioned that effective digitization could unlock significant prospects for the country, drawing attention to the iTaukei economy as an overlooked area, particularly when compared to the thriving Māori economy in New Zealand, which has generated over FJD $90 billion. Kamikamica reaffirmed the government’s dedication to leveraging this sector for positive transformations within the iTaukei community.
“If we can achieve this successfully, Fiji will be a completely different country in the next 50 years,” he asserted. He acknowledged that the Fijian Holdings Limited, HFC, and iTaukei Trust Fund are making significant strides in creating opportunities to tap into the resources of iTaukei communities.
