A panel of experts is currently evaluating applications for the newly established Tower Vunilagi Scholarship, with the company expected to contact successful applicants later this month. Jajeena Bhan, co-chair of Tower Insurance’s Suva Hub, noted that the panel comprises Tower group executives from New Zealand along with its leadership team in Fiji.
The term “vunilagi,” meaning “new horizons,” reflects the scholarship’s intent. According to Bhan, the Tower Vunilagi Scholarship aims to support students who have the potential to become future leaders within the Tower organization, thereby contributing to a stronger, more equitable, and sustainable future for all Fijians. The scholarship was introduced in June to mark Tower’s 150 years of operation in Fiji.
This scholarship will fund a full year of tuition for three final-year students from the University of the South Pacific (USP), coupled with internship opportunities at Tower Insurance. Bhan emphasized that the insurance sector presents vast opportunities for career advancement and making a difference locally.
In addition to covering their tuition, recipients of the Tower Vunilagi Scholarship will also complete paid internships, positioning them to potentially accept permanent roles at Tower upon graduation from USP. Notably, Tower currently employs several USP alumni, and the scholarship aims to strengthen this relationship further.
Bhan mentioned a recent successful open day at USP that attracted a significant number of students interested in learning about career prospects at Tower, spanning fields like data analysis, marketing, sustainability, and human resources. Furthermore, Tower plans to participate in the USP Career Fair Days scheduled for October.
