Unlocking iTaukei Potential: A Call for Youth Empowerment and Collaboration

The Centennial Celebrations of Ratu Kadavulevu School brought together prominent speakers who motivated both current students and alumni to unite for enhanced prosperity and collaboration.

During the event, government ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, highlighted the creation of new opportunities aimed at increasing job prospects for graduates.

Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu emphasized the need to prepare students to lead future generations. “It is essential to consider what actions we can take today to equip our future generations for the challenges that lie ahead,” Vasu stated during a Business Talk session held earlier this week.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, and MSMEs Manoa Kamikamica noted the government’s focus on empowering youth to embrace ownership in Medium, Micro, and Small Enterprises. “As we work to solve the mystery of poverty, introducing entrepreneurship will play a crucial role in addressing Fiji’s poverty issues,” Kamikamica remarked.

Kamikamica also mentioned that effective digitization in Fiji could unlock substantial opportunities. He pointed out that the iTaukei economy remains one of the most underutilized sectors in the nation, in contrast to the Maori economy in New Zealand, which has generated over FJD $90 billion. He affirmed the government’s dedication to leveraging this sector for positive change within the iTaukei community.

“If we manage to succeed in this endeavor, Fiji will transform significantly over the next 50 years,” he added. Kamikamica commended Fijian Holding Limited, HFC, and the iTaukei Trust Fund for their initiatives aimed at unlocking more opportunities to utilize the resources of the iTaukei communities.
