Unlocking iTaukei Potential: A Call for Collaboration and Entrepreneurship

The Ratu Kadavulevu School Centennial Celebrations featured prominent speakers who motivated both current students and alumni to collaborate for enhanced prosperity. During the event, various government ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, stressed the importance of creating new job opportunities for graduates.

Ifereimi Vasu, Minister for iTaukei Affairs, emphasized the need to prepare the youth to lead future generations. “It is crucial to determine what actions we can take today to equip our future generations for the challenges they will face,” he stated, during a Business Talk earlier this week.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, and MSMEs, Manoa Kamikamica, indicated that efforts are underway to empower young people to assume ownership within the Medium, Micro, and Small Enterprises sector. He remarked, “Unlocking the mystery of poverty requires introducing entrepreneurship as a key component to resolving the poverty equation in Fiji.”

Kamikamica highlighted the potential of digitization to bring about significant opportunities for the nation if implemented effectively. He pointed out the iTaukei economy as an area with great untapped potential, comparing it to the Maori economy in New Zealand, which has produced over FJD $90 billion. He reiterated the government’s commitment to leveraging this sector to spur positive changes within the iTaukei community.

“If we succeed in this endeavor, Fiji will be an entirely different country in the next 50 years,” he asserted. He mentioned that organizations such as Fijian Holding Limited, HFC, and the iTaukei Trust Fund are actively undertaking initiatives to unlock further opportunities by utilizing the resources of iTaukei communities.
