Lemeki Cagialau, the Executive Director of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities, was one of the prominent speakers addressing the audience. He highlighted the significant advancements made in Fiji towards inclusion for persons with disabilities, underlined by the country’s ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the introduction of supplementary legislation.

The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF) actively supports inclusivity initiatives. During his presentation, Mr. Cagialau encouraged the private sector to implement inclusive practices and collaborate with organizations like the National Council of Persons with Disabilities. To mark the recent International Day for Persons with Disabilities, FCEF made a notable contribution of $5,000 to support the Council’s vital work, reinforcing its commitment to fostering an equitable society.
Mr. Cagialau’s message reinforced that inclusion goes beyond accessibility. It is about creating empowering opportunities for persons with disabilities, insisting that businesses must move past superficial gestures and adopt strategies that recognize their contribution to society and the economy.
