Students from Uciwai District School on Moala Island had a valuable opportunity to expand their perspectives at a Careers Expo hosted at Yasayasa Moala College. Under the guidance of their teacher, Jonacani Kotobalavu, students in grades 6 to 8 engaged with various educational and career options during this week-long event organized by the Ministry of Education.
The Expo toured the Lau group and featured booths from various stakeholders, including Fiji National University. Kotobalavu emphasized the importance of introducing students to opportunities beyond their island, stating, “Learning is not just limited to our island; there’s always a bigger picture out there.” He highlighted the event’s significance as students prepare to move on to secondary school and eventually to universities.
The students had the chance to visit multiple booths and gain insights into different educational paths. As a graduate of FNU, Kotobalavu noted that the presence of institutions like FNU at the expo encourages students to consider their future possibilities. He remarked, “This moment is important for our students to come and explore because they are building their futures,” stressing the positive impact of such initiatives in remote maritime areas.
