Unlocking Futures: Students Explore New Horizons at Careers Expo

Jonacani Kotobalavu, a teacher at Uciwai District School on Moala Island in the Lau Group, emphasized the importance of broader educational experiences for his students. He recently led a group of students from Years 6 to 8 to the Careers Expo at Yasayasa Moala College. This week-long event, organized by the Ministry of Education, showcases various educational opportunities across the Lau region, including key participants like the Fiji National University (FNU).

Kotobalavu expressed gratitude for such opportunities in the maritime zone, highlighting how FNU and other institutions help expand the students’ perspectives. At the expo, students had the chance to visit numerous booths and learn about diverse educational pathways. He stressed the significance of these experiences as students prepare to transition to secondary education and further.

Post Year 8, students will advance to secondary schools and universities, and having FNU present at the expo is a significant benefit, according to Kotobalavu. As a graduate of Fiji National University, he is particularly enthusiastic about the potential opportunities for his students. He stated, “This moment is important for our students to come and explore because they are building their futures.”
