Unlocking Futures: Students Dive into Career Opportunities at Expo

“Learning extends beyond our island; there’s always a larger perspective,” said Mr. Jonacani Kotobalavu, a teacher at Uciwai District School on Moala Island in the Lau Group. He recently led a group of students from Years 6 to 8 to the Careers Expo held at Yasayasa Moala College.

The week-long expo, organized by the Ministry of Education, brings together various stakeholders, including Fiji National University (FNU), across the Lau Group. “We are fortunate to have these opportunities here in the maritime zone,” Mr. Kotobalavu remarked. “FNU and other institutions play a crucial role in expanding our students’ perspectives.”

During the expo, students had the chance to visit numerous booths and explore different educational pathways. Mr. Kotobalavu emphasized the importance of attending the event as they aim to transition to secondary education and beyond. “After Year 8, they will progress to secondary schools and universities. Having FNU here is a significant advantage.”

As an alumnus of Fiji National University, having studied at the Koronivia campus, Mr. Kotobalavu is dedicated to creating opportunities for students. “This event is vital for our students to come and discover because they are shaping their futures,” he concluded.
