Unlock Your Potential: FNU Launches Exciting New Martial Arts Program!

Fiji National University’s College of Humanities and Education has introduced the Introduction (Multi) Martial Arts Programme at the Nasinu Campus.

This Certificate Programme aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding and practical skills across multiple martial arts disciplines. Training will include Hapkido, Hosinsul, Haidong Gumdo, Tae Kwon Do, Wuzhu Sanda Boxing, and Judo, promoting a holistic approach to martial arts education. The programme is designed to enhance participants’ physical fitness, mental resilience, and self-defense abilities.

During the launch, Chief Guest Professor Govinda Lingam, a Professor in Teacher Education at the College, emphasized that martial arts is more than just a physical activity; it represents a journey of personal transformation. He stated, “Today, we are not just launching a programme, but we are opening the doors to new opportunities for self-discipline, physical fitness, mental resilience, and personal growth.” He further noted that martial arts is inclusive and accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

Professor Lingam assured that Captain Korovou, the programme instructor, will create a safe and supportive learning environment where students can progress at their own pace. He highlighted that the programme imparts not only technical skills but also valuable life lessons, teaching resilience and a mindset focused on continuous self-improvement.

Dr. Victor Alasa, the Associate Dean of Learning and Teacher Education, remarked that the initiative signifies a major step in the university’s dedication to offering diverse educational opportunities tailored to student interests. He encouraged students to enroll in this enriching programme, which promises rigorous training under experienced instructors.

Suraj Singh, the Head of the Department of Secondary and Sports Education, pointed out that the values and skills taught in martial arts are especially relevant in today’s complex society. He stated that the six-week short course is designed to foster a well-rounded approach to martial arts training, enhancing participants’ overall well-being and self-defense skills.

Captain Tevita Korovou, who comes from a military background, will lead the programme, emphasizing the transformative impact of martial arts on mental and emotional well-being.
