The Land Transport Authority has announced a wheel tax amnesty for vehicles that were not in use during the COVID-19 pandemic. This amnesty will run from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025, as per Legal Notice 73 of the Land Transport (Fees & Penalties) (Amendment) Regulations 2024.
Vehicles that had their licenses expired between July 4, 2016, and July 31, 2023, will qualify for a waiver of wheel tax arrears, including the Road User Levy and fees under the Accident Compensation Act 2017, according to a statement from the LTA. However, vehicles that expired on or before July 3, 2016, will not be eligible for this waiver.
Arrears will be applied from the date of expiration until July 3, 2016, while there will be no accrued charges from July 4, 2016, until the inspection date during the amnesty period. If a vehicle is valid from August 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024, the arrears will apply.
To take advantage of this initiative, vehicle owners must visit any LTA branch to clear outstanding fines, renew their motor vehicle accident levy (MVAL), and pay for an application for inspection.
