Unity Over Division: Rabuka’s Call to Embrace Peace

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka addressed the Indo-Fijian community during the National Federation Party (NFP) annual convention in Sigatoka, emphasizing that they should have no fear amidst divides reinforced by politics. He highlighted how historical colonialism has compartmentalized the two major ethnic groups in the country but noted that they have managed to coexist peacefully with other communities in Fiji.

Rabuka condemned the use of fear and negative stereotypes that have been prevalent in political campaigning, particularly referencing the lead-up to the 2022 General Election. He shared his experiences of being vilified and labeled in derogatory terms during this time.

He urged unity for the future of Fiji, asserting that all parties in the current coalition government are working collaboratively towards building a better nation. Rabuka expressed confidence that by the next elections, the political landscape would reflect significant changes for the better, urging that peace must begin within the community itself.

He also acknowledged the NFP’s vital role in the nation’s development.
