Unity in Healing: Methodist Church Backs Military’s New Initiative

The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma has expressed its support for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Reconciliation and Restoration Programme. This initiative seeks to promote healing and unity within the military and the wider community, reflecting a dedication to shared growth and national development.

Reverend Jolame Lasawa, the Church’s General Secretary, highlighted the significance of the initiative. “We are supporting it, particularly considering the military’s ongoing efforts. They presented the programme to the President and me, and we had a discussion about the updates,” Reverend Lasawa noted.

He also commended the government for introducing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. “We are backing the concept of truth and reconciliation. We have sent one of our representatives to engage with what the government is doing,” he added.

The Steering Committee for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is engaging with various stakeholders, including leaders from civil society, faith organizations, political parties, and media groups, to refine the draft legal framework.

Assisted by Sashi Kiran, the Assistant Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, the Committee’s goal is to establish the legal, governance, and financial framework for the Commission. The chair will provide direct reports to the Prime Minister.
