As we illuminate our diyas this Diwali, we not only embrace the Festival of Lights but also the spirit of unity that defines our cherished Fiji, stated Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu.

In his message for the occasion, Seruiratu highlighted that this eagerly anticipated festival in the Hindu calendar represents the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil—a sentiment that deeply resonates within our richly diverse multicultural nation.

“Our long-standing history of multiculturalism is founded on respect, tolerance, and a shared vision of peace. Fijians from various backgrounds unite to celebrate Diwali, reinforcing the values of compassion, kindness, and unity that have connected us for generations,” he expressed.

Seruiratu encouraged individuals to embody the tenets of light and goodness represented by Diwali in their daily lives. He emphasized the importance of fostering understanding and empathy, stating, “By making space in our lives for these qualities, we honor the essence of Diwali.”

He reminded everyone that Diwali is not merely a celebration but a call to action to renew our dedication to integrity, selflessness, and service to others. “As we share sweets, decorate our homes, and gather with loved ones, may we carry the festival’s spirit into our everyday lives—treating one another with respect, working collaboratively for a more equitable society, and embracing the strengths derived from our unity in diversity,” Seruiratu remarked.

As we celebrate this Diwali, let us rekindle our belief in a Fiji that values every individual, regardless of their background, culture, or beliefs. He added, “May the light of Diwali guide, inspire us, and remind us that together, there is nothing we cannot achieve.”

Seruiratu also emphasized the importance of safety during the festivities, urging everyone to exercise caution when lighting diyas and using fireworks to ensure a joyful celebration free from accidents.

This Diwali, there is a compelling reminder for Fijians to not only enjoy the cultural festivities but also to commit to supporting one another in their communities. It is a tender invitation towards a brighter, more united future for all.
