Unity Fiji has made it clear that there are no plans to collaborate with other political parties in the lead-up to the 2026 General Election. This statement was confirmed by Party Leader Savenaca Narube in an interview with FijiLive.
Although Narube acknowledged that exploring partnerships is a topic the party has promoted in previous elections, he outlined that Unity Fiji is currently in discussions with the Fiji Labour Party regarding a potential alliance for the upcoming local government elections. A technical team from both parties has already prepared a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), though it still needs to be finalized.
Narube emphasized the benefits of working together for local elections, specifically mentioning the advantages of sharing financial resources and enhancing the quality of candidates. Once the MOU is completed and approved by both parties, it will be presented to Unity Fiji’s board for ratification before its inclusion in the party’s Annual General Meeting.
Additionally, the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji criticized the current government for not adhering to its commitment to hold local government elections as promised. He expressed uncertainty about the future of these elections, questioning the government’s dedication to restoring democracy at all levels.
In summary, Unity Fiji is focusing on its strategy for local elections while raising concerns about the government’s failure to follow through on democratic commitments. This situation reflects the importance of transparent political collaboration and accountability, fostering an environment where parties are willing to unite for the betterment of governance and citizen representation.
Overall, this context demonstrates a proactive stance by Unity Fiji in planning for local governance and seeking potential partnerships, offering a hopeful vision for increased collaboration in Fiji’s political landscape.
