Unity and Healing: Fiji’s Military and Church Join Forces!

The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma has expressed its support for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Reconciliation and Restoration Programme. This initiative aims to promote healing and unity within the military and across the wider community, reflecting a dedication to collective development and national advancement.

Reverend Jolame Lasawa, the Church’s General Secretary, highlighted the significance of the programme. He stated, “We are supporting it, particularly given the military’s current efforts. They presented the programme to the President and me, and we discussed the update.”

He also commended the government for initiating the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, adding, “We are also supporting the idea of truth and reconciliation. The government is conducting this effort, and we have sent one of our representatives.”

The Steering Committee for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is in consultation with various stakeholders, including civil society leaders, religious groups, political parties, and media organizations, to refine the draft legal framework. The committee, chaired by Assistant Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Sashi Kiran, is tasked with developing the legal, governance, and financial framework for the Commission. The chair will report directly to the Prime Minister.
