Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the law in light of the ongoing investigation into Aiyaz Mohammed Musa Umarji, a convicted drug smuggler. Mr. Tikoduadua emphasized that the government has a clear stance on drug-related offenses and the individuals involved.
He acknowledged the investigation surrounding Mr. Musa’s return to Fiji, but noted that he cannot provide specific details due to its active nature. “What I can reiterate is the government’s strong position on drug-related crimes,” Mr. Tikoduadua stated. He reinforced the commitment to combat illicit narcotics and to support law enforcement efforts.
Mr. Tikoduadua highlighted the principle that “no one is above the law,” ensuring that due process will be adhered to throughout the investigation. His remarks come after Mr. Musa was released from a New Zealand prison, where he served time for importing pseudoephedrine, a substance used in methamphetamine production.
Fiji Police’s Criminal Investigations Department and Serious Organised Crime unit are investigating allegations of funds misappropriation, illegal importation of controlled substances, money laundering, and proceeds of crime, related to Mr. Musa.
