Illustration of Rabuka: I do not want to jeopardise anybody’s career

Uncertainty looms as Prime Minister discusses potential Government changes

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that the formation of a Government of National Unity would need to adhere to the provisions of the Constitution. He emphasized that any decisions made would be influenced by constitutional requirements and parliamentary standing orders.

“Those will all have to be taken into consideration,” Rabuka said. “I do not want to jeopardize anybody’s career as a member of Parliament, where everyone, so far, has been contributing what they believe to be in the best interests of the people who voted them in.”

Rabuka also spoke about the status of the Coalition government. “We have not heard anything from within the Coalition, from SODELPA or the Federation Party,” he noted. However, he acknowledged that there have been external efforts to create discord.

“But I know that there are some who are trying to engineer discontent or even a split in the Coalition. But they are not office bearers of those two political parties,” Rabuka concluded.
