The second phase of the UK’s support for the Fiji Police Force’s leadership training commenced yesterday at the Nakasi Police Station’s Eastern Division training room.
The UK Government is enhancing its assistance to the Fiji Police Force through the College of Policing by offering specialized leadership training. This initiative aims to benefit officers at various levels, including junior supervisors, middle managers, and senior executives.
During the opening of the three-week training, Mr. Josh Kemp, Head of the UK Integrated Security Fund (UKISF) Pacific Program, emphasized the importance of investing in leadership skills. He noted that effective leadership is vital for addressing issues across Fiji, as it involves understanding the broader systems and leadership dynamics rather than focusing on individual posts or stations.
Mr. Kemp stated that empowering officers at all ranks allows for more effective delegation in decision-making processes.
Furthermore, it is expected that the training for executive-level officers will commence in early September.
In addition to the local training, the UK Government is offering senior officers of the Fiji Police Force study opportunities under the International Leadership Programme in London. Recent participants include Divisional Police Commander South, SSP Wate Vocevoce, along with SSP Serupepeli Neiko, the Director of Training and Education, and SSP Salanieta Radaniva, the Director of Community Policing.
