Ubayd Haider is preparing for what he calls the most significant challenge of his boxing career as he prepares to compete for the vacant IBO Oceania-Orient featherweight title against China’s Runqi Zhou. Haider has begun his training regimen after a lengthy hiatus and is determined to fully dedicate himself to this fight.
He highlighted the challenge he faces due to the limited availability of sparring partners in Fiji, emphasizing that most of his training will be done alone. “He (Zhou) is very tough, and I will have to match him in the ring,” Haider remarked, noting Zhou’s high work rate but questioning his knockout power.
The bout is scheduled for October 26 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, where Haider anticipates a fierce contest. “It will be a bloodbath as both of us will have broken noses and cuts around our eyes,” he said, predicting a physically demanding fight.
Haider acknowledged the strength of Zhou’s support team, which includes seasoned champions, making the matchup more challenging. Despite the critics who may come to see him falter, Haider is focused on delivering a respectable performance. “Like every other fighter, I will be coming for victory,” he commented, expressing confidence in his boxing strategies, including a favorable height advantage.
He also extended his gratitude to South Pacific Boxing promotions and Amarok Accessories for their backing in his upcoming fight.
