Local boxer Ubayd Haider has promised fans an impressive performance as he prepares to face China’s Runqi Zhao for the IBO Asia Pacific Super weight title. The bout is set to take place during the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event this Saturday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

In a recent interview, Haider expressed confidence in his training and enthusiasm for the upcoming fight. “I have trained really hard for this fight, as if I were fighting a world champion tomorrow, so I am very positive and 100 percent sure that this belt will stay here in Fiji,” he stated.

Haider also mentioned that there is significant motivation surrounding this match, particularly due to personal issues with Zhao’s coach and comments made by his opponent on social media. He is eager to test Zhao’s skills in the ring. “You can expect the best version of me on fight night. I’ve never been this nervous before a fight in quite some time. However, as the fight gets closer and as I face my opponent, those butterflies will fade away, and my focus will solely be on hitting him hard,” Haider added.

Promoter Freddy Chand emphasized the importance of this title fight for Haider, describing it as a considerable opportunity for both the boxer and the local audience. “It is a significant chance for the Fiji public to see Ubayd in his home turf. A total of three international IBO titles are on the line, along with one local title,” he said. Chand confirmed that there will be ten bouts in total, all sanctioned by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF).

Additionally, Chand thanked the chairman and noted that sports icon Sonny Bill Williams will be attending the event as the chief guest.
