Heavy rainfall has led to increased turbidity in the Waimanu River, causing water supply disruptions for certain residents in the Central Division over the weekend. The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) announced that their teams are addressing the issues related to water supply from the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.
WAF explained that the elevated turbidity levels resulted in significant sludge accumulation at the plant, which affected the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers. This malfunction has hindered efforts to restore water production to normal levels, subsequently impacting water availability for those affected.
WAF confirmed that their technical team is actively working on the situation and expressed apologies for the inconvenience, especially for customers who have experienced water shortages since Saturday.
