The Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, has requested forgiveness from the people of the province for the lack of clear information regarding the provincial company.
The provincial company, Namosi Development Company Ltd (NDCL), was established in 1994. This year marks its 30th anniversary.
The initial plan for establishing the company was for it to be owned by the province. However, it turned out that only a few individuals are shareholders.
This issue was brought up at the Namosi Provincial Council meeting held at the Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour, last Thursday.
Minister of Housing and provincial council member, Maciu Katamotu, questioned the management of the provincial company on behalf of concerned provincial members.
“We want the company to be viable and to generate revenue. The people deserve to know if the company will be restructured to ensure it belongs to the province,” said Katamotu. “I hope an urgent meeting will be called to discuss this issue as the people are anxious and have many questions.”
Ratu Suliano revealed that he has spent 20 years attempting to establish a provincial think tank to oversee the company’s operations. This was finally accomplished last week, and they will now manage the company.
During his two-year incarceration in Naboro, Ratu Suliano made plans for the provincial company. He added that four of the original shareholders of the company have passed away, leaving him as the sole remaining shareholder.
“A meeting will be called for an auditor to present the company’s financial status to the people,” he concluded.
