Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down from his role as president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation yesterday, stating that he submitted his resignation at the party’s executive council meeting last week.
At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two main reasons for his decision to resign. “Firstly, I have accomplished what I set out to achieve with the formation of the party,” he explained, referencing the successful effort to unseat the FijiFirst party as a significant milestone of his leadership.
Additionally, he expressed the need to prioritize his health and well-being. “I don’t want to bear the pressures of both my leadership role as president and my chief-ly responsibility of Nadi. I prefer to concentrate on being the Tui Nadi. It is time for me to pass the baton to someone else to carry on this work,” he stated, dismissing rumors of disagreements over party procedures as misinformation.
Ratu Vuniyani expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. He also mentioned that vice-president Ratu Josefa Dimuri is currently serving as the acting president.
