Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation yesterday, noting that he had submitted his decision during the PAP’s executive council meeting the previous week.
At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani shared two main reasons for his resignation. “Firstly, I have fulfilled my commitment in establishing the party,” he stated. He emphasized that the successful effort to defeat the FijiFirst party was a significant accomplishment of his leadership.
Additionally, he expressed the importance of prioritizing his health and personal life, stating, “I want to avoid the pressure of managing both the responsibilities of the presidency and my chief role in Nadi. I have decided to concentrate on my duties as Tui Nadi. This is the right moment to pass the leadership on to someone else.” He dismissed rumors about disagreements within the party, labeling them as misinformation.
Ratu Vuniyani expressed his gratitude to the party, its members, and supporters. Currently, the vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, has taken on the role of acting president.
