Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as president of the People’s Alliance Party. He announced his resignation yesterday, explaining that he had submitted his decision during the party’s executive council meeting held last week.
The 70-year-old leader cited two primary reasons for his departure. “Firstly, I have accomplished my initial commitment in establishing the party,” he stated. He highlighted the successful effort to defeat the FijiFirst party as a key achievement during his leadership.
Ratu Vuniyani expressed the importance of prioritizing his health and personal life. He noted, “I do not wish to take on the pressures of both the presidency and my role as Tui Nadi. I have chosen to focus solely on the latter.” He believes this is the appropriate time to transition leadership to another individual. Addressing rumors of disagreements within the party, he clarified that they were based on misinformation.
He extended his gratitude to the party, its members, and supporters. In the interim, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, the vice president, will serve as acting president.
