Tui Nadi Resigns as People’s Alliance Party President: What’s Next?

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has announced his resignation as president of the People’s Alliance party. He confirmed his resignation during the party’s executive council meeting last week.

At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two main reasons for his decision. Firstly, he believes he has fulfilled his commitment to the party’s formation, specifically in its successful efforts to defeat the FijiFirst party, which he considers a significant achievement in his leadership role.

Secondly, he expressed the need to prioritize his health and well-being. He stated, “I don’t want to take both the pressure of these two leaderships of being president and chief-ly role of Nadi.” He decided it was time to focus solely on his role as Tui Nadi and to hand over the presidency to someone else for the continuity of the party’s mission. Ratu Vuniyani addressed rumors of disagreements within the party as misinformation.

He expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. Currently, the vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, is serving as the acting president.
