Tui Nadi Resigns: A Shift in Leadership for the People’s Alliance Party

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has resigned from his position as president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation yesterday, stating that he submitted his decision during the PAP’s executive council meeting last week.

The 70-year-old leader cited two primary reasons for his departure. He remarked, “First, I have achieved what I had committed to in the formation of the party,” noting the successful effort to defeat the FijiFirst party as a significant accomplishment of his leadership.

Additionally, Ratu Vuniyani expressed a desire to prioritize his health and well-being. “I don’t want to take both the pressure of these two leaderships of being president and chief-ly role of Nadi. I chose to focus on one, which is the role of the Tui Nadi. This is the right time to pass the baton to someone else to continue.” He also addressed rumors regarding disagreements over procedures, labeling them as misinformation.

He thanked the party, its members, and his supporters for their contributions. The vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, is currently serving as the acting president.
