Tui Nadi Resigns: A Shift in Leadership for the People’s Alliance

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down from his position as president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation yesterday, revealing that he had submitted it during the party’s executive council meeting last week.

At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two main reasons for his departure. He stated, “First, I have achieved what I had committed to in the formation of the party,” referring to the successful effort to challenge the FijiFirst party, which he viewed as a significant accomplishment in his leadership role. Additionally, he expressed the need to prioritize his health and well-being, explaining that he does not wish to bear the pressures of both the presidency and his chief-ly responsibilities in Nadi. He intends to concentrate solely on his role as the Tui Nadi and believes it is the appropriate time to pass leadership to someone else.

Addressing rumors about disagreements over party procedures, Ratu Vuniyani labeled them as misinformation. He expressed gratitude towards the party, its members, and his supporters as he steps down. The vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, will serve as the acting president following his resignation.
