Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, known as the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as the president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation during the party’s executive council meeting last week.
At 70, Ratu Vuniyani cited two primary reasons for his decision. First, he believes he has fulfilled his commitments in establishing the party and successfully leading efforts to challenge and overcome the FijiFirst party. He regards this achievement as a significant milestone in his leadership.
Secondly, he expressed the importance of prioritizing his health and well-being. Ratu Vuniyani stated that managing both the responsibilities of party presidency and his chief role in Nadi was becoming too demanding. Consequently, he opted to focus exclusively on his responsibilities as Tui Nadi, deeming this an appropriate time to delegate leadership to someone else. He addressed circulating rumors regarding disagreements within the party, clarifying that they were mere misinformation.
He expressed gratitude towards the party, its members, and his supporters. Additionally, he announced that vice-president Ratu Josefa Dimuri is currently serving as the acting president.
