Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci has stepped down as the president of the People’s Alliance Party. He announced his resignation yesterday, stating that he officially submitted his resignation during the party’s executive council meeting held last week.
At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two primary reasons for his decision to resign. “Firstly, I have accomplished what I set out to achieve in forming the party,” he explained. “That was to defeat the FijiFirst party, which was a significant success during my leadership.”
He also expressed a desire to prioritize his health and well-being, saying, “I do not wish to handle the pressures of both being the party president and fulfilling my traditional role as Tui Nadi. I have chosen to focus on the latter, and now is the appropriate time to pass the leadership to someone else.”
Addressing rumors about disagreements with the party’s procedures, he clarified, “Those were all misinformation.”
He expressed appreciation to the party, its members, and his supporters. Currently, vice-president Ratu Josefa Dimuri is serving as the acting president.
