The JP Bayly Trust has made a donation of $20,000 to Habitat for Humanity Fiji to assist with housing and community development projects. Trust chairman Digby Bossley emphasized that this contribution aims to aid disadvantaged Fijians in rebuilding their lives. He highlighted the ongoing struggles of many residents who are living in makeshift tents or have lost their homes due to natural disasters, as well as those who cannot afford to construct new homes.
Bossley pointed out that the instability in housing leads to various socioeconomic and health challenges. He expressed the Trust’s eagerness to help when Habitat Fiji reached out for support, allowing people to gain security and hopefully find a pathway out of poverty through their initiatives.
Susan Naidu, the national director of Habitat for Humanity Fiji, noted that Daulomani Home in Lautoka, established during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been offering temporary shelter to homeless individuals and families. She mentioned that the donation will facilitate access to essential services like electricity, refrigeration, cooking equipment, and other necessities.
Naidu praised the JP Bayly Trust’s generous contribution, saying it motivates the organization to continue its mission of building homes and communities for Fiji’s most vulnerable populations. She affirmed that every home built provides families with a foundation for healthier, happier, and more dignified lives.
Earlier this year, Habitat for Humanity Fiji and the JP Bayly Trust signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance collaborative efforts and deliver comprehensive support to marginalized communities.
